Thematically, for a number of years the subject of my art has been the landscape around the Studenica Monastery.
For me, Studenica is an eternal source of inspiration, a source of deep, positive energy, a place where I feel reinvigorated, and to which I therefore return as to a sanctuary, what it really is indeed. As an inspiration, Studenica lives in me even when I am not there.
When I draw out of doors, the drawings have great immediacy and a strong connection to the landscape. They are actually portraits of the landscape. To draw a landscape is to “absorb” the landscape- I internalize it; whereas when I work in the studio, I am creating from the inside, with free interplay of visual elements, and the resulting images are therefore symbolic, abstract….but that is another level of creation and thinking.
